Earlier this summer we flew out to Columbus, Ohio to film aerials of Tami Longaberger’s 50,000 sq. ft. country estate. Large real estate properties such as these are great opportunities for us to implement the blend of crane style, low altitude perspectives with traditional, high angle aerials. Wake Utah’s Hyperlite Meltdown day at Mantua Reservoir, outside of Brigham City, UT. Riders had the opportunity to kick off the 2011 season trying out the new Hyperlite boards and System Bindings, while Marine Products and Supra boats provided boats, drivers, and other equipment. Pixair Productions shot aerial and ground video.
The PixAir team just got back from shooting aerials off the coast of Florida for season 4 of Nat Geo’s Shark Men! We worked with a great crew, learned a lot about sharks, and had an all around successful trip (only costed us $300 in baggage fees round-trip to travel with all our gear). One of the highlights of this project was learning about the fascinating endeavors of the non-profit research organization Ocearch, which supports the continual research progress of the show. Also, special thanks to Video Ray’s ROV operator Craig Thorngren for his help while filming on the mother ship!

Pixair’s last winter resort shoot of the season was filming aerials of the new Montage Resort at Deer Valley. This prominent resort comes from the same ownership as the famous Montage Laguna Beach in California. This exclusive resort provides ski in/ski out access, a secluded location, and dramatic views of the Uinta Mountains and Park City valley. Jamey Gregory and Penn Eastburn joined us to help out, film/photo behind-the-scenes, and edit together this highlight reel.
We caved in to the 3D craze and picked up this GoPro rig to begin test flying. Check back with us for 3D aerials to be posted soon!
We drove down to Vegas this week to see the latest and greatest at the 2011 NAB Show. This entertainment industry based expo is the largest in the world of it’s kind, drawing over 90,000 people throughout the show.
The highlight for us was Panasonic featured some of our AF100 aerial footage in the theater at their booth, which screened every 20 mins! It was amazing to see our aerials on a theater-sized screen for the first time.
We were also encouraged to see some of the progression in our industry with a Droidworx AD8 at the GoPro booth drawing tons of attention. It was entertaining for us to hear all the people talking about buying one of these and learning to fly over night. If only it were that easy!
And of course we had to swing by the Flying-Cam booth to see their equipment in real life. These guys started it all…and that’s apparently why they can charge $1M for this slick RC aerial rig flying the Canon 5D Mark II!
Among many other lights, cameras, and action, we couldn’t resist to post about the elusive RED Scarlet making yet another appearance at the RED Digital Cinema booth. This would be our dream camera to shoot aerials, if it would ever be released for purchase…
…for now, we will continue our pursuit in flying a RED Epic, which we will post updates on our progress in the weeks to come!
Pixair met up with the Poor Boyz Productions crew at Powder Mountain to shoot aerials of several big hits in the backcountry for their next ski film. Featured athletes: McRae Williams and Leo Ahrens.
While we were up at Guardsman Pass scouting the Rocker Gap for future back country aerial filming, we came across a group of riders in the Boondockers movies, including Geoff “Phatty” Dyer. Although the sun had already set, we decided to shoot a quick aerial just for fun.
Continuing our winter resort filming projects, we spent another day in Park City shooting aerials of the Waldorf Astoria and Hyatt Escala Lodge. These five star resorts provide ski in/ski out access to Canyons Resort, one of the largest ski and snowboard destinations in the United States.
